Most every computer comes with a basic drawing program. These can be useful, because they are basic. Simple and easy, they are great for starting a line drawing for your own art work. The more sophisticated and complex programs are just that, complex, complicated. I find them harder to use. I start a drawing on my basic paint program, then open it in another program to add the details. |
Paint
This is the basic program that came with my Windows operating system. It was included in the purchase price. (I'm sure that Bill Gates would have you believe that it is free, but remembering the cost of my computer, I think Bill has gotten his money back for this program.) It's not as powerful as other programs, but the simplicity makes it a pleasure to work with. The drawings are saved as bitmaps (or bmp). These files tend to be rather large, and can take a long time to load on a computer either up- or downloading. Your graphics can be saved as a CompuServe Graphic Interchange (or gif), either in the newer versions of Paint, or in another drawing program. To see what I have done with Paint click Here. |
Paint Shop Pro
This is a program from JASC. I have used this program for drawings, photos, and to combine them both. For a 30 day free trial of either Jasc Program, click Here. To see what I have done with Paint Shop Pro, click Here. |
Animation Shop
This is another program from JASC. It will take a series of Graphics, (either drawings, or photos) and put them together to make an animated gif. Be sure you do not open your animated gif in a still program. This will cause it to become a still gif, and then you will have to rebuild it. To see what I have done with Animation Shop, click Here. For a 30 day free trial of either Jasc Program, click Here. |
Clip Art
Clip Art is premade graphics. You probable have some type of clip art on your computer already. You can also download clip art on line. There are many sites that will allow you to download clip art for free. To see what I have done with Clip Art click Here. |
Photo Art
Photos can be scanned into your computer; imported from a digital camera; or down-loaded from the internet. Most photos save best as a jpg file. The button at the top left corner of this page, is an example of photos that I had merged into one picture. For scanners and digital cameras, Click Here. |
